The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a state statute (5 ILCS 140/1) that provides citizens access to all government documents and records and governs the inspection of them. It is the policy of Rutland Township to comply with all requests in accordance with state law unless there is an exemption in the statute that protects the confidentiality of certain records.
In our efforts to provide the public easy access to certain records, please visit Rutland Township's Transparency Page on our website that will link you to frequently requested documents. For those documents not available online, request for such documents can be made using our FOIA Request Form online or by downloading, and mailing the form to the Rutland Township FOIA Officer using the Township mailing address shown at the bottom of this page.
Requests for information should be in writing on the form provided by the Township FOIA Request Form; however, requests can be made by letter, telephone, fax or email. Certified copies are available upon request.
Request Time Frame
By law, all FOIA requests will be answered within 5 business days and commercial requests within 21 business days. All original documents may be viewed by appointment, if copies are requested and are over 50 pages there will be a $0.10 per page charge. Additional charges may be imposed for large format copies, certain electronic media or color copies; any request requiring duplication services will be charged the actual cost for the duplication.
If your request requires an extension you will be notified within the 5 business day time frame. If your request is denied in portion or whole you will be advised of those exemptions that apply and of the appeal process afforded to you by law.
